Kneebone treble as Prime run riot

Roselands Res 0-11 Ashton Prime

After two weeks of inactivity due to the weather, Prime returned to action at a familiar venue. It was their third trip to Roselands already this season having faced them in both cup competitions with differing outcomes.

Prime were without Jamie Barker and Mazurkiewicz in defence and Goldsmith's broken toe is likely to rule him out until December. Barnham and Gilbert returned to bolster the defence with Ellis and Mellors filling the midfield voids.

It was not looking good for the Tonbridge outfit who had lost 6 of their players to first team duty - leaving them with just 10 players - and Prime were soon ahead.

Skovborg-Hansen's persistence paid dividends as he finished at the second attempt.

Prime continued to make their numerical advantage pay and they doubled their lead within 10 minutes when Walters' probing through ball took a wicked deflection past the stranded keeper.

Prime were 5 up within half an hour as two excellent strikes from the lively Kneebone sandwiched a headed goal from a corner by stand-in skipper Mellors.

To their credit, Roselands then put together a good spell of possession and were unlucky not to pull one back when hesitation between the defence and the keeper Latter gave Roselands striker Junior Goffe a guilt-edged chance, but Latter atoned with an excellent save.

Prime did make it 6-0 just on the half-time whistle as Walters' long clearance from a Roselands corner found its way to Skovborg-Hansen who powered past both centre-backs and finished at the second attempt.

With Roselands limited to playing 1 man up front, Goldsmith withdrew right-back Barnham who put in another solid display, and sent on Excell in a three-pronged attack.

The move paid dividends when a sweeping move involving Mellors and Excell led to Excell's driven cross being expertly headed in by Kneebone to complete a deserved hat-trick.

Excell himself finished coolly to make it 8 soon after and although Roselands battled away bravely, Prime top scorer Carl Barker was not to be denied and he slotted home for 9-0.

The goal of the game came shortly after when the ref looked set to blow for a foul on Walters, but the ref rightly played advantage and Goulding curled a left-footed drive into the roof of the net from all of 40 yards - his second long-range strike in succession.

With Rob Matthews coming on for his 50th appearance, and Sankey coming on for the last quarter, Prime added the 11th and final goal with Barker smashing home his 9th of the season.
